WWI Museum, National Negro Baseball Museum, Jazz Museum
Who? Kara and Dustin
Where? Kansas City, Missouri
When? August 24, 2024

100% Not my picture. But it is a pretty skyline pic of Kansas City. I enjoyed driving around downtown and seeing all culture that was down there.
What were our plans? We had plans to visit for sure 2 museums and eat BBQ. That was it, and we had about 24 hours to do it!
We stayed in Liberty, MO. We ate at Nickys Pizza. It was recommended highly on Yelp!, and honestly, if we went back we would probably go there again. The picture below looks empty. Let me promise you, there were people on that patio and all over a fun atmosphere! They were very busy (it was a Friday night) with a Happy Hour crowd. The atmosphere was what you would expect at a Pizza/Bar joint on a Friday night. Kid friendly, but loud with TV’s everywhere. We got a supreme pizza with Ranch.

Next morning we got up and headed to our first museum.

The World War I Museum was everything I hoped it would be.

There was free parking around the museum. Walking up to the museum you see the tower and walk into basically the middle of the museum. Get your ticket (veterans and their spouses and family members get a discount), and then head to the exhibits you pay for. We did the main exhibit and then the “Kids in War” exhibit. For the price of the extra “Kids in War” exhibit, I’m not sure I would pay it again.
There were 2 different documentaries to watch about WWI. Both were VERY interesting. I only wish I would have had more time in this museum.
Below depicted what a dark trench war it was. There were many exhibits set up to help understand what a gruesome place it was.

After that, we went to get Kansas City BBQ. Highly recommend Gates BBQ downtown. It was close to the WWI Museum, and recommended by one of the employees.

Onto the next museum ! We walked in and realized that it is kind of a 2 for 1.
The National Negro Baseball Museum and Jazz Museum are the same building. They were both ‘quick’ museums.

Overall, this was a great experience, but I want to go back to Kansas City again. https://www.trumanlibrary.gov/
The Truman Library is something that I would love to go back to.
Also, would love to go catch the Chiefs play a football game! So, I will be grabbing the kids and going back at some point.
That was State 2. Stay tuned for which museum might be next! I have some ideas….
